Our mission
Raksha Foundation is created by Indo-Fijians for Indo-Fijians and our diverse South Auckland whānau. We are a registered charity – Charity Number: CC64126
We deliver culturally intelligent career mentoring for Indo-Fijian youth and ignite innovation and entrepreneurship across South Auckland, leveraging world-class knowledge from the University of Auckland.
Between 1879 and 1916, over 60,000 Indians travelled to Fiji under the Girmit agreement. Their courage and dreams live on in their descendants — the proud Indo-Fijian community of Aotearoa. We honour our Girmitiya heritage while ensuring that every young person — Indo-Fijian, Māori, Pasifika, African, Asian, or refugee background — receives the support they deserve in education, health, careers, and opportunities.

Why it matters
Innovation and Entrepreneurship material is mainly available at the tertiary education level. It is a philosophy worth learning, as it applies in many contexts and helps find better ways of working. Great ideas come from thinking differently by youth and professionals.
In terms of Career Development, there is a strong culture of comparison, expectations, and narrow career fields, fueled by the perception of prestige within the Fijian Indian community. Our goal is to guide youth in exploring their aspirations and in navigating the cultural challenges they face. Once we get this pilot right, then we can roll it out to the wider South Auckland Community.
